Romanian interpreters and translation services.
Romanian is the official language of Romania under its Constitution and the state language of Moldova. California has more Romania-born residents than any other state, with the most in Los Angeles and Orange counties, according to the Census Bureau's 2020-2024 American Community Survey. AMS supplies Romanian interpreters for depositions, in person across the LA basin and Orange County and remotely by Zoom or phone, plus Romanian document translation. Romanian is not one of California's certified court languages, so tell us about the proceeding and we will match a qualified interpreter.

Romanian varieties and dialects we handle
Standard Romanian
A Romance language written in the Latin alphabet with the letters ă, â, î, ș, and ț.
Romanian in Moldova
Moldova's laws have called the language Romanian, not Moldovan, since 2023. Many Moldovans also speak Russian, so confirm which language the witness prefers.
Romani is a different language
Romani, the language of the Roma people, is an Indo-Aryan language with roots in India. Despite the similar name, it is not closely related to Romanian. Book the language the client actually speaks.

Romanian interpreting questions, answered
Does California certify Romanian court interpreters?
No. Romanian is not on the Judicial Council of California's list of certified spoken languages. The Judicial Council lists Romanian among its registered languages, which have an oral proficiency exam in the language. AMS supplies qualified Romanian interpreters; ask about a specific interpreter's credentials when you request a quote.
Can a Romanian interpreter cover a client from Moldova?
Usually, yes. Moldova's state language is Romanian. Some Moldovans prefer Russian, so ask which language the client is most comfortable in before you book.
Does AMS provide Romanian interpreters for depositions?
Yes. Depositions are most of AMS's Romanian work. We cover them in person across the LA basin and Orange County and remotely by Zoom or phone.
Is there a federal court certification for Romanian?
No. The federal courts' interpreter certification program covers Spanish; the programs for Navajo and Haitian Creole are no longer offered. Federal courts use professionally qualified or language-skilled interpreters for Romanian.
Does AMS translate Romanian documents?
Yes. AMS translates Romanian documents, including civil records such as death certificates, for litigation, USCIS filings, and the courts, with the translator's certification statement those filings require.
