Insurance defense interpreting questions, answered
What is an Examination Under Oath (EUO) and why does it need an interpreter?
An Examination Under Oath is a sworn, recorded interview required by most insurance policies when a carrier is investigating a claim. When the insured has limited English proficiency, EUOs are conducted with a qualified interpreter, frequently a certified court interpreter. The interpretation appears on the transcript and may be used in subsequent litigation, so accuracy is decisive.
Can the same interpreter handle the EUO and a later deposition?
Often yes, and it is often preferable. Continuity reduces ramp-up time and keeps terminology consistent across the proceeding chain. We confirm at scheduling whether the same interpreter should be matched to follow-up matters.
What about Statements Under Oath (SUO) and recorded statements that are not formal EUOs?
AMS interprets recorded statements, SUOs, and any other claim-investigation interview format. The interpreter is matched to the formality and stakes of the proceeding.
How does AMS handle SIU (Special Investigation Unit) referrals involving language barriers?
SIU matters typically combine recorded statements, interviews with bystanders, and translation of supporting documents. AMS coordinates the full package, managing the assignment from intake through final document translation.
Can AMS supply interpreters for IMEs and panel QMEs?
Yes. IME and QME interpretation is one of our largest practice areas. We supply medically-qualified interpreters experienced in orthopedic, neurological, neuropsychological, and psychiatric evaluations.
