Can AMS staff a multi-day trial with a teamed interpreter pair?
Yes. NAJIT guidance recommends a two-interpreter team for any proceeding over an hour, and multi-day trials always use a team. We assign two certified interpreters who rotate in 20 to 30 minute segments and check each other's work on the record.
How do you handle conflicts when AMS has worked with both plaintiff and defense firms?
Our scheduling team maintains conflict logs and never assigns the same interpreter to both sides of an active matter. Linguists are routinely cleared by firm before each new assignment. If there is any prior contact with the case, parties, or witnesses, the interpreter discloses it and we substitute.
Do you cover deposition videoconferencing platforms (Zoom, Teams, Webex)?
Yes. AMS interprets depositions on Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Cisco Webex, GoToMeeting, and most other major platforms. We provide a checklist of best practices for the deposing attorney to ensure clean audio and a workable interpretation flow.
Can AMS provide medical interpreting for IMEs in PI cases?
Yes. IMEs are a significant share of PI interpretation. We supply medically-qualified interpreters for orthopedic, neurological, neuropsychological, and psychiatric IMEs. We coordinate the same interpreter for follow-up IMEs to maintain consistency.
What languages are most common in California PI cases?
Spanish leads by a wide margin. Korean, Mandarin and Cantonese Chinese, Vietnamese, Armenian, Farsi, Tagalog, and Russian are also frequent. For rare-language witnesses (indigenous Mesoamerican languages, smaller Asian and African languages), AMS coordinates through our national interpreter network.
Does AMS translate medical records and prior depositions for PI matters?
Yes. Medical record translation, prior deposition translation, and translation of accident-scene witness statements are routine work. We coordinate with the assigned interpreter so terminology stays consistent between document translation and live interpreting.
