Spanish interpreters and translation services.

Spanish is by far the largest language in AMS's practice. Our network includes certified Spanish court interpreters, CCHI-credentialed medical interpreters, and qualified document translators across every major Spanish variety: Mexican, Caribbean (Cuban, Puerto Rican, Dominican), Central American, South American, and Castilian. We staff depositions, IMEs, trials, and document translation projects throughout California and Nevada, with anytime online scheduling.

Spanish varieties and dialects we handle

Mexican Spanish

The largest variety in California legal and medical work. Includes regional sub-varieties from northern Mexico (Chihuahua, Sonora), central Mexico (Mexico City, Guadalajara), and southern Mexico (Oaxaca, Chiapas). For applicants from southern Mexico, ask about indigenous-language first speakers.

Cuban and Caribbean Spanish

Cuban, Dominican, and Puerto Rican Spanish share Caribbean phonology and lexicon. The Willie Ramirez case (a Cuban-Spanish "intoxicado" misrendered as "intoxicated") is the canonical example of where Caribbean-variety knowledge matters in medical interpreting.

Central American Spanish

Salvadoran, Guatemalan, Honduran, and Nicaraguan Spanish with distinct vocabulary and politeness conventions. Important for asylum-related work and a large share of LA-basin demographic.

South American Spanish

Argentine, Chilean, Colombian, Peruvian, Ecuadorian, and Venezuelan Spanish. The Colombian and Venezuelan populations have grown significantly in LA and Las Vegas in recent years.

Castilian (Iberian) Spanish

European Spanish with distinct phonology (distinción) and some vocabulary differences. Less common in U.S. legal-medical settings but routine for document translation and corporate work with Spanish parent companies.

Indigenous-Spanish bilingual speakers

Many witnesses identified as "Spanish speakers" are first-language Mixteco, Triqui, Zapoteco, Quiché, or Mam speakers with Spanish as a second or third language. In high-stakes proceedings, ask about first language; see our indigenous languages article.

Dialect matching when it matters

For Caribbean, Central American, and indigenous-Spanish-bilingual clients, we match to a regionally-appropriate interpreter. For routine proceedings, any qualified certified Spanish interpreter handles the assignment cleanly.

AMS has been interpreting Spanish in California legal and medical settings since 1999.

Spanish interpreting questions, answered

Does AMS supply California court-certified Spanish interpreters?

Yes. The largest share of our certified Spanish interpreter network holds California Court Interpreter Program (CCIP) certification, with many also holding federal FCICE certification for U.S. District Court work. We supply certified Spanish interpreters to LA Superior Court, the Central District of California, the Northern District (from the SF office), the District of Nevada, and U.S. Immigration Court daily.

How quickly can AMS schedule a Spanish interpreter?

Availability depends on language, location, and timing. Call our office at (800) 919-2029 and we will confirm what is available for your date. For emergency hospital or after-hours legal matters, call (800) 919-2029.

Does dialect matching matter for Spanish interpretation?

For routine proceedings, no. A certified Spanish interpreter is trained in standardized Spanish that any Spanish-speaking witness will understand. For Caribbean witnesses (especially in medical settings with potential false cognates), Central American witnesses with regional vocabulary, or witnesses whose first language is an indigenous Mesoamerican language, dialect or first-language matching becomes important. We handle the dispatching for you.

Can AMS handle Mexican birth certificate (acta de nacimiento) translation?

Yes. Mexican actas de nacimiento are routinely translated for USCIS filings, U.S. court matters, and university admissions. Standard turnaround is 2 to 4 business days with a flat-fee quote.

Do AMS interpreters handle indigenous Mesoamerican languages (Mixteco, Triqui, Quiché, Mam)?

Yes, in addition to Spanish. AMS coordinates indigenous-language interpreters for U.S. legal and medical proceedings, primarily by remote video because in-person indigenous-language interpreters are rare. Advance notice is important.

What does Spanish interpretation cost?

Rates vary by language, location, proceeding type, time of day, and on-site versus VRI. For a written quote, call our office at (800) 919-2029 or use the Quote form. See our court-interpreter cost article for a detailed breakdown.

Does AMS provide simultaneous Spanish interpreting for conferences and large events?

Yes. We supply teamed simultaneous interpreters with booth equipment (booth, transmitters, headsets) for major events. Conference interpreting requires advance booking; let us know dates and expected attendance.
