Korean interpreters and translation services.
Los Angeles is home to the largest Korean-American population in the United States. AMS supplies California court-certified Korean interpreters for depositions, IMEs, and trials throughout LA, plus CCHI-credentialed Korean medical interpreters and qualified Korean translators for legal and immigration documents. The LA Korean bench is one of the deepest in the AMS network.
Korean varieties and dialects we handle
Standard South Korean (Seoul Korean)
The dominant variety in the U.S. Korean-American community. Used in virtually all California legal and medical work.
Honorific and formal registers
Korean has elaborate honorific levels. Court and medical interpreters are trained to maintain the appropriate formal register on the record, especially with older Korean-American witnesses.
North Korean Korean
Distinct phonological and lexical features. Important for asylum and refugee-related work. AMS coordinates qualified interpreters with North Korean variety experience.
Korean-American heritage variety
Second-generation Korean-Americans may speak heritage Korean with English code-switching. Court interpreters render this faithfully and avoid normalizing on the record.
