Albanian interpreters and translation services.
Albanian is the official language of Albania under its Constitution and, with Serbian, an official language under Kosovo's Constitution. It is an Indo-European language with no close relatives, written in the Latin alphabet. AMS supplies Albanian interpreters for depositions, remote by Zoom or phone, for court reporting firms and the law firms they serve. Albanian is not one of California's certified court languages, so tell us about the proceeding and we will match a qualified interpreter.

Albanian varieties and dialects we handle
Gheg
The northern dialect group, spoken in northern Albania, Kosovo, and most Albanian-speaking areas of North Macedonia. Tell us if the witness speaks Gheg, as many witnesses from Kosovo do.
Tosk
The southern dialect group. Standard Albanian is based mainly on Tosk.
Standard Albanian
Written in a Latin alphabet with letters such as ë and ç and pairs such as dh, gj, and xh, which matter when names are spelled into a transcript.

Albanian interpreting questions, answered
Does California certify Albanian court interpreters?
No. Albanian is not on the Judicial Council of California's list of certified spoken languages. The Judicial Council lists Albanian among its registered languages, which have an oral proficiency exam in the language. AMS supplies qualified Albanian interpreters; ask about a specific interpreter's credentials when you request a quote.
Does it matter whether the witness speaks Gheg or Tosk?
It can. Gheg, spoken in Kosovo and northern Albania, differs noticeably from the Tosk-based standard. Tell us where the witness is from and we will match the interpreter.
Does AMS provide Albanian interpreters for depositions?
Yes. Depositions are nearly all of AMS's Albanian work, remote by Zoom or phone, so the witness and the attorneys can be anywhere.
Is there a federal court certification for Albanian?
No. The federal courts' interpreter certification program covers Spanish; the programs for Navajo and Haitian Creole are no longer offered. Federal courts use professionally qualified or language-skilled interpreters for Albanian.
