Certified interpreters for Examinations Under Oath (EUOs).
An Examination Under Oath is a sworn, recorded interview required by most insurance policies when a carrier is investigating a claim. When the insured has limited English proficiency, EUOs are conducted with a qualified interpreter, frequently a certified court interpreter, because the transcript may be used in subsequent litigation. AMS supplies certified EUO interpreters in 100+ languages, in person at carrier and SIU offices throughout California and Nevada, and remotely on Zoom and Teams.
What we handle
First-party EUOs
Property, auto, homeowners, and other first-party claim EUOs where the insured is being examined under their own policy.
Special Investigation Unit (SIU) referrals
EUOs and recorded statements taken as part of SIU investigations. We coordinate the full interpreting and translation package the SIU may need.
Recorded statements (not formal EUOs)
Pre-EUO recorded statements, scene-of-loss interviews, and witness statements interpreted with the same care as a formal EUO.
Multi-day EUOs
Some EUOs run multiple days. AMS assigns a teamed interpreter pair to maintain consistency and accuracy across the full examination.
Remote EUOs (Zoom, Teams)
Carrier-driven remote EUOs are increasingly common. AMS interprets on every major platform with the same accuracy as on-site.
Translated EUO exhibits
Documents introduced as EUO exhibits (foreign-language receipts, contracts, vehicle titles, medical bills) translated in advance so they can be discussed on the record.
How it works
- 01
Send the EUO details
Date, time, language, expected duration, and the venue or remote platform. For SIU referrals, include any specific security or chain-of-custody requirements.
- 02
We assign a certified interpreter
Selection by certification level (court-certified is standard for EUOs), language pair, and prior EUO and litigation experience.
- 03
Written confirmation
Includes the interpreter's name and credential. We are reachable at the dispatch line for any same-day changes.
Why carriers and defense firms choose AMS for EUOs
Clean EUO transcripts
Certified court interpreters trained to handle the formal cadence of an EUO, including objection-and-response sequences and off-the-record clarifications.
Carrier-fluent invoicing
Invoices itemized in the format carriers expect, with the documentation needed for cost recovery or reimbursement.
Continuity across the case
Where the EUO interpreter should match a subsequent deposition interpreter, AMS coordinates the assignment chain.
EUO interpreter questions, answered
Does an EUO interpreter need to be court-certified?
EUOs are not formal court proceedings, so court certification is not strictly required by statute in most states. In practice, AMS supplies court-certified interpreters for EUOs because the transcript is sworn, recorded, and frequently introduced in subsequent litigation. The same accuracy standards that apply to depositions apply to EUOs.
How long does an interpreted EUO take?
EUOs with interpretation typically take 1.5 to 2 times as long as the same EUO would in English. For planning, double the expected English duration. AMS recommends scheduling a buffer for breaks, especially for multi-hour EUOs.
Can the insured's attorney or family member interpret?
No. The certified interpreter is the only person authorized to render the questions and answers on the record. The insured's attorney attends as counsel. Family members may attend as observers if permitted but must not interject.
Does AMS handle SIU-driven EUOs where surveillance audio is also being transcribed?
Yes. AMS coordinates the full SIU package: interpretation at the EUO, plus transcription and translation of any surveillance audio, recorded statements, or foreign-language documents introduced as exhibits.
Can AMS interpret a multi-day EUO with the same interpreter on each day?
Yes. We schedule the same interpreter across days for continuity. For very long EUOs, we may assign a teamed pair to manage cognitive fatigue while maintaining consistency.
What does an EUO interpreter cost?
Rates vary by language, location, proceeding type, time of day, and on-site versus VRI. For a written quote, call our office at (800) 919-2029 or use the Quote form.
