Language Specialty

French interpreters and translation services.

French is requested across California for business, immigration, and asylum work. AMS supplies California court-certified French interpreters trained in metropolitan French (France), Canadian French (Quebec), and African French varieties, plus federally-certified Haitian Creole interpreters for federal court matters.

French varieties and dialects we handle

Metropolitan French (France)

The standard of France. The most common variety in U.S. business contexts.

Canadian French (Quebec, Acadian)

Distinct phonology and vocabulary. Important for Canadian-American cross-border legal matters.

African French

French as spoken in the Maghreb (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia), West Africa (Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire, Cameroon), and Central Africa. Important for asylum and immigration work.

Haitian Creole (Kreyòl)

Haitian Creole is a separate language, not a variety of French, though it draws vocabulary from French. The federal Court Interpreter Certification Examination (FCICE) covers Haitian Creole. AMS supplies federally-certified Haitian Creole interpreters for federal court matters.

French interpreting questions, answered

Does California certify French court interpreters?

The California Court Interpreter Program registers French interpreters but does not separately certify French as of recent program lists. AMS supplies court-registered or specially-qualified French interpreters for state court matters and federally-certified Haitian Creole interpreters for federal court.

Is Haitian Creole the same as French?

No. Haitian Creole (Kreyòl) is a separate language with French vocabulary influences. A French interpreter generally cannot interpret Haitian Creole and vice versa. AMS supplies dedicated Haitian Creole interpreters; FCICE certifies Haitian Creole at the federal level.

How fast can AMS schedule a French interpreter?

Availability depends on language, location, and timing. Call our office at (800) 919-2029 and we will confirm what is available for your date.

Does AMS translate French documents for USCIS?

Yes. French and African French civil registration documents, academic credentials, and supporting documents are routinely translated.

Can AMS supply African French interpreters for asylum cases?

Yes. AMS coordinates qualified African French interpreters for asylum and humanitarian-parole cases involving West African and Maghreb applicants. Advance notice is helpful.
